I was on and on about a variety of topics on Twitter this morning; thought I’d compile them here, since they made a good post.
In #homehorror news—man, I am SO close to finishing this sucker. But it’s just a drip-drip-drip of little things; it’s anticlimactic. You’d think these projects rush to a peak and then you’re done; but usually you just fizzle and crawl the last few KMs because you have to.
Rather than a victory lap, it’s more like Old Snake inching his way towards death because, hey, he’s already there. Snow was the same; in the end, I was just happy to have it done. I always feel bad about this, but I guess it’s natural.
I think in this last week of work my productivity has plummeted. It’s all on schedule, but I can’t keep up the fervour. Things are looking good, though; testing this week to get some perspective on the new build. I think it rocks? I guess I’ll find out.
I always strive for a zen-like existence with work: too much passion or intensity and I burn out. I need a steady, even flow to succeed.
I have a talk planned that I wanted to give at TCAF about this: how to plan and finish these kinds of projects, guaranteed. The secret is not about “passion”—whatever that means. It’s about old-fashioned planning and time management. It’s work, like anything else.
