The “the secret government game” I’ve been coyly referring to for the past few months, this action-maze game (currently considered a beta) was commissioned by the Public Health Agency of Canada as an educational resource to discuss the links between food security, poverty and chronic disease.
I worked with a local team of very talented folks to take this issue—one that’s both serious and difficult to make “fun”—and turn it into an approachable, genuinely-engaging game that can be used in a variety of settings, from classrooms to workshops and even in public venues.
My personal contribution was to all the game’s art, the design of the game, and the UI design. Everyone on the team had to juggle a few roles, and the particular process for this project was very unique because of the purpose and stakeholders. All of us learned a tonne from this project, and it’s helped me be a better designer and team-member, even with games like Home.
At a later date I will have some kind of in-depth post-mortem, but for now, marvel at this original mockup of an original Food Quest concept:

Wow!
