Star Wars: Definitive Theatrical Collection

Don’t get your knickers in a pickle just yet, Star Wars fans! This “Definitive Theatrical Collection” isn’t an official Lucasfilm release (unfortunately); no, this six-disc monster is a hand-made collection I created to consolidate two amazing sets of fan edits.

The first three discs are high-definition “theatrical reconstructions”—they take HD broadcast versions of the 2004 Special Editions and meticulously restore them back to the way Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were when released in theatres. No CG Jabba, no Greedo shooting first, no young Anakin ghost!

Though the source material for the “despecializations” is all over the place, the end result is a pretty fine set for Star Wars fans who’d like to see the theatrical originals alongside the whiz-bang new versions.

The other three discs comprise the original trilogy again—this time taken as upscaled standard-definition DVDs. These discs take the letterboxed laserdisc transfers from the “bonus” 2006 Special Edition releases and upscale them to a proper, anamorphic widescreen presentation. It ain’t Blu-Ray, but if you’re looking for authenticity, this is it!

So now you see what happens when I don’t have enough to do with my time.

OH MY.

OH MY.

My favourite part is the “Dagobeer.”
